Current Art Explorium Staff

Heather Williams Executive Director

Heather wishes she could have gone to a place like Art Explorium as a child, but she is trying hard to make up for lost time as an adult. She is thrilled to work at Art Explorium because it brings together children, art and environmental sustainability.

Heather has helped start two community centers.  One was a self-help legal center at the Legal Aid Society of Hawaii. The second was at the Luke Center for Public Service at Punahou School. With her community experience and two young art-lovers of her own at home, working on a community art center for youth is a perfect fit.

Ana Ching Education Coordinator

Ana grew up with lots of great art programs in her school and neighborhood and is sad that many kids don’t have the same opportunities in school today. But she’s happy to be a part of Art Explorium, where she can create programs that help kids explore their creativity.

Ana studied International Relations at the University of San Francisco and later spent several years teaching high school English in Okinawa. She loves how art can be used as a means of communication between people of different backgrounds. In her free time, Ana likes hiking, diving and exploring nature, so she feels very lucky to be a part of promoting environmental sustainability in Hawaii.

Ashley Katamoto Birthday Party Coordinator

19990513 WDA INVENTOR. Ashley Katamoto, 10 yrs old at Aina Haina Elementary, invented the ÒChow Down Dog FeederÓ for her dog Sunshine (girl), a japanese spitz. Ashley didnÕt want to constantly bend over to feed Sunshine. Ashley is a third place regional winner in the national Craftsman/National Science Teachers Association (NSTA) Young Inventors Awards Program. Ashley received a $250 US savings bond from Clifford Urabe, hardware manager at Sears Ala Moana. SB Photo By Ken Ige.

The wonderful feeling of creating and exploring is what first drew Ashley to the arts. Ashley’s love for seeing children create their own works of art is what first drew her to the Art Explorium. Working at the Art Explorium has allowed Ashley to combine her passions for art, education, and sustainability in one amazing place! The best part of her job is planning and playing with kids at birthday pARTies each week. Ashley has a bachelor’s degree in studio art and is an art teacher at University Lab School.
