Join us at Foster Garden, where the ceramic work of local artist Charlton Kupa’a Hee will be on exhibit. Students will combine ceramics with nature by first learning how different plants grow and reproduce. They’ll then be taught ceramic sculptural techniques to create and decorate their own unique succulent planter, which they’ll paint using a variety of colorful underglazes. After finishing up, each student will choose a succulent to take home with them that day. Planters will be collected, fired, and returned to the Art Explorium in Kaimuki to be picked up at a later date. Art instructor Garid Chapman is a ceramics artist who specializes in making creatures inspired by biology and animation.
